I Know What It Feels Like to Struggle With Your Weight

I’m Coach Ryan Waltemate, a holistic health coach, husband, father, and someone who spent most of his life battling obesity, hunger, cravings, and the frustration of feeling like nothing worked for long.

My Struggle Was Never a Lack of Effort

For most of my life, I lived with obesity. At my heaviest, I weighed more than 330 pounds and wore a 56-inch waist. I tried to lose weight more times than I can count, but hunger, cravings, and food noise always seemed to pull me back.Like so many people, I believed I simply needed more discipline. But the harder I tried to eat less and rely on willpower, the more frustrated I became. Eventually, I realized my struggle wasn’t a character flaw. My body was working against me in ways I had never been taught to understand.

The Turning Point

Everything began to change when I stopped asking, “Why can’t I stick to a diet?” and started asking, “Why is my body making this so difficult?”That question led me to study insulin resistance, metabolic health, hunger, cravings, and the biological signals that influence how we eat and store energy. For the first time, my lifelong struggle began to make sense.

What Changed for Me

As I began applying what I was learning, I stopped treating my body like the enemy. I learned how the foods I ate, the timing of my meals, my habits, and my lifestyle affected my hunger, cravings, insulin, and energy.Over time, I lost more than 70 pounds and went from a 56-inch waist to a 38-inch waist. More importantly, I finally understood how to work with my body instead of constantly fighting against it.

Why I Became a Health Coach

Once I finally understood what had been happening inside my own body, I could not keep that knowledge to myself. I knew there were other people blaming themselves for struggles they had never been taught how to understand. That is why I became a holistic health coach. I take complicated topics like insulin resistance, hunger, cravings, metabolism, nutrition, and habit change and make them easier to understand and apply in everyday life. My role is not to hand someone another restrictive diet. It is to help them understand their body, build practical strategies, and create changes they can maintain.

My Approach to Coaching

I do not believe lasting change comes from following a perfect diet or relying on willpower. It begins with understanding what is happening inside your body and building realistic strategies around your health, habits, lifestyle, and goals. My coaching looks at the whole picture, including nutrition, insulin resistance, hunger and cravings, sleep, stress, mindset, and daily routines. We work together to identify what may be holding you back and create practical changes that fit your real life.

What Makes My Coaching Different

I am not coaching from a textbook alone. As a person who has lived through obesity, intense hunger, cravings, food noise, weight regain, and the frustration of trying harder without understanding why it was not working, I know how personal this struggle can feel.I combine that lived experience with health-coaching training and years of studying metabolic health. I explain the science in plain language, listen without judgment, and help you build strategies around your individual needs and real life. You will not be expected to follow a one-size-fits-all plan or be perfect.

What You Can Expect From Me

You can expect honest conversations, clear explanations, practical guidance, and support without judgment. I will listen to what you are experiencing, help you recognize patterns, and work with you to find realistic strategies that fit your life.I will not expect perfection or shame you for setbacks. We will treat challenges as information, adjust when necessary, and keep moving forward one manageable step at a time.

Beyond Coaching

Outside of coaching, I am a husband, father, published author, and lifelong learner. I understand what it is like to balance health goals with work, family responsibilities, stress, and a schedule that does not always cooperate. Those real-life demands shape how I coach. I believe a health plan should work within your life, not require you to put your life on hold just to follow it.
